Anson Ng

Artist member since 2022
Toronto, Ontario

Hello! I am Anson Ng β€” I am a landscape painter and painting instructor born in Thailand and raised in Toronto. Primarily painting in oil and digital mediums, my work explores the intersections of diasporic identity, impermanence, and nature.

Prior to being an artist, I worked in our family restaurant and the culinary industry in Toronto for nearly a decade. I returned to art and graduated at Sheridan College Honours Bachelor of Illustration (2020). There I rediscovered the beauty of the natural world, realized the unique value of sharing a communal collaborative space, and began exploring my identity and culture through the lens of my art.

My current work celebrates Asian diasporic businesses and neighborhoods as an essential part of the Canadian landscape. The work is the result of my experience with the pandemic, painting outdoors, and inspirations from the Group of Seven, Post Impressionism, and Ukiyo-e. I use natural changes in scenery to add a sense of impermanence, emotional, and serendipitous value to our familiar landmarks.
